About this tool

Made for the task at hand.

Check whether a prompt and its expected response fit a model’s context before making a request. Local o200k_base tokenization supplies a real count, while the budget report separates input, reserved output, and remaining space.

How to use

  1. Paste the prompt whose token footprint you want to measure.
  2. Enter the context window and reserved output as two comma-separated token counts.
  3. Review the fit status, remaining budget, and tokenizer mapping caveat.
Your work stays yours.
Tool inputs are processed locally in your browser and are never sent to KitVerse servers. Clear the workspace when using a shared device.
Common questions
Does o200k_base match every language model?

No. It is exact only for models that use this encoding. For other models the result is an approximation and the output says so.

Does the count include chat overhead?

No. It counts the supplied text only; message wrappers, tool schemas, system prompts, and provider-specific overhead must be budgeted separately.
