About this tool

Made for the task at hand.

Compute a keyed hash for verifying message integrity and authenticity when both parties share a secret. Native Web Crypto combines your UTF-8 message and key with the selected SHA algorithm.

How to use

  1. Enter the message and the shared secret key.
  2. Choose HMAC with SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, or legacy SHA-1.
  3. Copy the hexadecimal authentication code for verification.
Your work stays yours.
Tool inputs are processed locally in your browser and are never sent to KitVerse servers. Clear the workspace when using a shared device.
Common questions
How is HMAC different from a plain hash?

HMAC incorporates a secret key, so someone without that key cannot produce a valid authentication code for a modified message.

Does HMAC encrypt the message?

No. The message remains readable. HMAC provides integrity and authenticity, not confidentiality.
